Summary
This course will describe the process of knowledge translation (KT) and strategies to optimize use of standardized outcome measures (SOMs) in the acute and inpatient rehabilitation levels of care. Several factors now foster improved KT and evidence-based practice in neurologic PT, including the widespread use of the electronic medical record, the emergence of clinical practice guidelines from the Academy of Neurologic PT, and the growth of board-certified specialists in neurologic PT. The Knowledge-to-Action Framework will be reviewed and examples of KT projects will be described. Then, efforts at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will be discussed, toward a larger KT project focused on the upcoming Core Measures in Neurologic Physical Therapy Clinical Practice Guideline.
