Summary
Serving the profession as a clinical instructor and/or mentor is a huge contribution to our profession. Most CIs and Residency Mentors work to further their teaching effectiveness by taking various CEU coursework but may not self-assess their teaching in the clinic long-term. This course is designed to assist CIs and Mentors in reflecting on their own clinical instruction methods and to target learners who may be struggling with clinical decision making and reflection. Then to discuss strategies to challenge metacognition of learners of various levels of training.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this presentation, the audience will:
• Discuss evidence to promote reflection and clinical decision making in order to challenge learners while on clinical and/or during residency training.
• Identify problems or pitfalls in learner’s clinical decision making.
• Describe strategies for clinicians to become more effective educators within clinical practice.
